Aphrodite Emerges

image

This is inspired by a Facebook friend’s video of her (possibly naked) self emerging from the Mediterranean sea somewhere in Italy.
I believe myself to be an embodiment of Aphrodite.  Even though I don’t show off my body.  But I could!  I am granted a slender,  healthy body today due to my support network.  Thank you to the Telephone Sisterhood!

Head, Heart And Hidden

image

From the sketchbook of Linda M Smith.  Crayola markers and glitter glue pens.  Also Pilot G2 07 black gel pen.
I can see what’s hidden in here.  Hands fascinate me.  Hands can heal, cook, write, gesture,  play guitar and make love to self and others.  Thank God for my hands!

Memories of Bruce Jenner

image

The cover of that cereal box I remember from my childhood.  And Bruce Jenner, the beloved Olympic athlete from that era.  I liked him.  I must have been — 11?  On the edge of adolescence.  And I remember how sexy Mikhail Baryshnikov was in “The Turning Point”.  Ahhhh, the 70s.  I had no clue why all the grownups made such a big deal out of sex!  NOW I get it!

Whimsical Creature

image

This was invented by me.  From the sketchbook of Linda M Smith.  I remember Jennie Braman, one of my recent art teachers,  telling me I was creating “creatures”.  Winged beings.  Angels in black silhouette.  And hairy things with 4 leg, horns, and pencilly little hands with arms.  Jennie also advised me to go with the charcoal and graphite.  The dirty stuff that smearsmy hands and the paper!  Because it brings out my artistic personality the best!

Memories

image

This started out as just some spontaneous sketch lines with my Pilot G2-07 gel pen.  Then it evolved into George Michael of the 80s watching a glittery,  sexy woman in his million dollar video.  It starred models such as Tyra Banks.  You may remember George Michael as the creator of the “Faith” album.  He made “Father Figure”, a tender love song.  And also the more demanding “I Want Your Sex”.  It’s my very favorite George Michael album.

Beaker Muppet

image

This is today’s drawing of Beaker the Muppet.  It’s an initial study of myrendition of a Muppets character.  I love how he sings and plays in Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy”.  It’s a hilarious Muppets video.  The screen is split into 6 parts.  Beakerplays the metronome, violin, drums, sings and shatters a wine glass!  He trills out,  “Me, me, ME, MEE, Me, me, meeee, meee …. me, me, mee, mee, meee, meee, meee, meee!! ….. ” Et cetera.  Wow.  I love it.  Everything explodes and blacks out in the end.

Porch Light

image

Freshly minted from the sketchbook of Linda M Smith.  Done with Prismacolor pencils and graphite.  I’m very glad I remember the shape of the porchlight against a childhood window.  Probably in our bathroom in Orinda, California.  The one I always used.  I think my childhood memories are going to be increasingly important as the years pass.

“Jenner aims his javelin …. he spins … he makes the jump! ”  I hated the cereal but loved the box because of that handsome young man on it.  Bruce Jenner radiated trustworthiness to me.  Bruce Jenner has always been “safe”.
